About TIQS

Professional association of Building Surveyors, Construction Managers and Quantity Surveyors

Tanzania Institute of Quantity Surveyors (TIQS) is charged with the responsibility of supporting, developing and protecting the character, status and fostering the best interests of the Quantity Surveying and allied professions as well as uphold the professional ethics and code of practice to its members who daily serving the public and private sectors in the country.

TIQS was officially launched during the first AGM on 28th April 1987. Subsequent amendments have been made in the Annual General Meetings of 1988, 1990, 1993 and 2014. During the launching time TIQS was operating under the Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Building Contractors Registration Board (Act 1972). It is now under the revise Act of 2000 for Architects and Quantity Surveyors, as a members’ representative body of all professional quantity surveyors and aspiring quantity surveyors registered and working in Tanzania.

Objectives

We have very specific and actionable targets that need to be achieved within a time

  1. To support and protect the character, status and the interests of the profession of Quantity Surveying and uphold a high code of professional conduct.
  2. To engender a close relationship with professional bodies both nationally and internationally associated with the construction industry with objective of improving the effectiveness of the industry in national development.
  3. To identify with and seek representation on the National Construction Council, Architects and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board and the Contractors Registration Board.
  4. To promote research in, and disseminate knowledge and information on, subjects relating to or affecting the profession of Quantity Surveying by means of lectures, seminars and publications.
  5. To provide expertise in the economics of construction with the aim of achieving optimum use of invested resources.
  6. To co-operate with institutions of higher learning which provide academic training for the profession of Quantity Surveying.
  7. To inform all who may benefit from the services of the Quantity Surveyor of the scope of his expertise.
  8. To assess the competence of all candidates for admission into the Institute by examination in theory and practice as stipulated in the By-Laws.
  9. To act as a forum for Quantity Surveyors and seek to address the Government, Parliament and other public institutions on policy matters affecting the construction industry generally and the profession in particular, including addressing professional matters pertaining to East Africa integration and common market.

To be a sustainably strong association that is capable of spearheading Quantity Surveyors in the country into becoming preferred lead advisors to clients in matters of construction projects.

TIQS Mission

To engender coherence amongst members of quantity surveying profession, lead the development of the discipline of quantity surveying and promote it as indispensable to value added services in the construction process, create awareness of the benefit of quantity surveying services to potential clients and the community, develop and maintain standards of excellence and best practice in the profession, and encourage the efficient, effective and sustainable use of construction resources.
