Empowering Women in Quantity Surveying Building a Strong, Inclusive Future in Tanzania’s Construction Industry

Since its inception, the Tanzania Institute of Quantity Surveyors (TIQS) Women’s Chapter has built a strong network of 413 women professionals in the Quantity Surveying and construction industry. The membership represents a full professional spectrum from fresh graduates to experienced leaders heading major projects and firms. Members are actively involved in contracting, consulting, project management, materials supply, and academia.

This diversity underscores the Chapter’s growing impact as a platform for empowerment, collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge sharing among women in the built environment. The steady rise in participation reflects increasing awareness of gender inclusivity and the expanding influence of Tanzanian women within the construction sector.

Capacity Building Initiatives

The TIQS Women’s Chapter remains committed to helping women in Quantity Surveying grow professionally and gain mentorship through well-organized learning and networking opportunities.

The Tanzania Institute of Quantity Surveyors (TIQS) Women’s Chapter successfully hosted the 2025 Women QS Celebration on 21st March 2025 in Upanga, Dar es Salaam, bringing together 86 women practitioners and students in Quantity Surveying. The event was held under the global International Women’s Day theme: “Accelerate Action.”

This special Iftar & Lantern Supper Dinner created an inspiring space to celebrate the social, economic, and professional achievements of women in Quantity Surveying, while amplifying the call for gender equality within the construction industry.

Key Event Highlights

Opening Remarks by the Chairperson, Dr. Nyamagere Gladys Sospeter, emphasized the chapter’s achievements and the ongoing need for women’s empowerment in the built environment sector.

Guest of Honor, TIQS President Hon. QS. Bernard Ndakidemi, commended women as the most active and supportive group within the institute. He highlighted their vital role in shaping the QS profession and encouraged continued unity, mentorship, and collaboration with other professions.

Inspirational Panel Discussions led by distinguished QS professionals shared experiences, challenges, and opportunities for women in leadership, capacity development, and policy advocacy.

Networking & Mentorship Sessions fostered new connections, professional guidance, and collaboration among participants.

Recognition Ceremony celebrated outstanding women QS practitioners and reaffirmed TIQS’s commitment to advancing gender equality in the sector.

At the TIQS Annual General Meeting in Dodoma, the Women’s Chapter advanced its capacity-building agenda through open discussions, networking sessions, and strategic planning. Members reviewed past activities, set new mentorship priorities, and explored collaborative initiatives to strengthen women’s leadership within the wider Quantity Surveying community.
