Code of Ethics

The TIQS Code of Ethics establishes the fundamental principles that guide members of the Tanzania Institute of Quantity Surveyors in their professional practice. It promotes integrity, competence, accountability, and transparency while ensuring that quantity surveyors act in the best interest of clients, the public, and the construction industry. The code serves as a framework for maintaining high professional standards, preventing unethical conduct, managing conflicts of interest, and reinforcing trust in the profession through responsible and impartial decision-making.

Professional Integrity

Members shall: Act with honesty, fairness, and transparency in all professional dealings Avoid any form of fraud, misrepresentation, or unethical conduct Maintain trust in the profession through consistent ethical behavior

Competence and Professionalism

Members shall: Undertake only work for which they are qualified and competent Continuously improve knowledge and skills through professional development Deliver services diligently, accurately, and to accepted industry standards

Objectivity and Impartiality

Members shall: Provide independent and unbiased professional advice Avoid conflicts of interest or disclose them when unavoidable Not allow personal interests to influence professional judgment

Confidentiality

Members shall: Protect confidential client and employer information Not disclose sensitive information without proper authorization Use information only for its intended professional purpose

Accountability

Members shall: Take responsibility for their professional actions and decisions Be answerable to clients, employers, and the profession Maintain proper records of work undertaken

Conflict of Interest

Members shall: Avoid situations where personal or financial interests conflict with professional duties Fully disclose any potential or actual conflicts to relevant parties Withdraw from assignments where impartiality is compromised

Professional Conduct

Members shall: Behave in a manner that upholds the reputation of TIQS and the profession Treat colleagues, clients, and stakeholders with respect and fairness Avoid any conduct that may discredit the profession

Compliance with Laws and Regulations

Members shall: Adhere to all applicable local laws, regulations, and industry standards in Tanzania Comply with contractual obligations and professional guidelines Respect procurement and construction regulations

Public Interest Responsibility

Members shall: Act in the interest of public safety, welfare, and sustainability Ensure that professional decisions do not harm society or the environment Promote responsible use of resources in construction and development
